Descripció:: In this paper, we show that some ideas that often appear in the novel Grande Sertão: Veredas (1956), by the Brazilian author Guimarães Rosa, may be linked to some theoretical discussions present in the history of political ideas and ethics, as well as the concept of the individual in modern and contemporary philosophy. We mainly seek to relate aspects of Rosa�s text with some formulations of the philosopher Isaiah Berlin, notably the �Counter-Enlightenment� and the critique of the rationalistic belief in a �Common Human Nature�; No presente ensaio, pretendemos mostrar que algumas ideias recorrentes no romance Grande Sertão: Veredas (1956), do escritor mineiro Guimarães Rosa, podem ser relacionadas com certas discussões teóricas identificáveis na história das ideias políticas e éticas e na concepção de indivíduo na filosofia moderna e contemporânea. Pretendemos, principalmente, relacionar aspectos do texto rosiano com algumas formulações do filósofo Isaiah Berlin acerca da "contra-ilustração" e de sua crítica à crença racionalista em uma "natureza humana fixa e imutável"; En este ensayo se intenta mostrar que algunas ideas recurrentes en la novela Grande Sertão: Veredas (1956), del escritor brasileño Guimarães Rosa, pueden ser relacionadas con ciertas discusiones teóricas que se hallan originalmente en la historia de las ideas políticas y éticas, y en la concepción del individuo en la filosofía moderna y contemporánea. Tenemos la intención, principalmente, de relacionar aspectos de la narrativa de Rosa con algunas formulaciones del filósofo Isaiah Berlin acerca de la "contra-ilustración� y de su crítica racionalista de la creencia en una" naturaleza humana fija e inmutable
