<dc:description>Durante o medievo floresceu o culto a Santa Bárbara.

<mods:abstract>During the Middle Ages, the cult of Santa Barbara flourished. From the 13th century onwards, her cult spreads in the Iberian Peninsula and the first texts about the saint began to circulate in the region. Among the firsts is the chapter dedicated to the martyr that composes the legendary abbreviation edited by the Franciscan Juan Gil de Zamora at the end of the 13th century. The article presents the conclusions of the analysis, in a historiographical perspec-tive, of this narrative, discussing the contextual motivations for its inclusion in the Aegidian ́s legendary. It is proposed that the composition of the Legenda Beate Barbare Virginis et Martiris by Juan Gil was associated by the traditions he received, his performance as a Franciscan, his schooling, the purposes of writing the abbreviated legendary, his personal and institutional relationships and commitments, and by events in the context in which he lived.</mods:abstract>

<field name="value">During the Middle Ages, the cult of Santa Barbara flourished. It is proposed that the composition of the Legenda Beate Barbare Virginis et Martiris by Juan Gil was associated by the traditions he received, his performance as a Franciscan, his schooling, the purposes of writing the abbreviated legendary, his personal and institutional relationships and commitments, and by events in the context in which he lived.</field>
