Abstract: This article deals with the process of upward mobility that it occurred in a Castilian village (Mora de Toledo) during the 17th century, as well as the marriage strategies performed by some rich families. The origin of social climbing was a consequence of the significant expansion of crops, cereals, vineyards and almond trees, and iron materials craftsmanship that gave work to many residents of the village. With the profits, a good number of commoners obtained degrees of hidalgos and formed part of the town hall, by matching between each other and making marriage with women and men in the locality and the nearby towns. Other important issues that are addressed are the equal distribution of inheritance and dowry.
