Essa herança, que situa a matemática como central no currículo e dá a ela o papel de preparar para o pensar, remonta ao filósofo grego Platão. No entanto, a análise da Paideia platônica revela que a importância da matemática não se restringe a seu potencial instrumental. Na verdade, Platão vê nela um potencial formativo. Ao aproximar o homem da realidade inteligível, ela o educa para guiar-se pela razão, para servir-se da inteligência em si, o que implica na realização de um modelo racionalista de homem, projeto antropológico que, no século XIX, Nietzsche denominou de apolíneo.; In the pedagogical tradition, math is considered a great propaedeutic for objective and logical thought. This heritage that locates math as central to the curriculum and with the role of preparation for thought, recalls the Greek philosopher Plato. However, analysis of the Platonic Paideia reveals that the importance of math does not restrict itself to its instrumental potential; Plato sees in it a formative potential. Mathematics teaches man to guide himself by reason, therefore bringing him towards intelligible reality. It teaches him to serve himself from intelligence in its own right, which represents the realization of a rationalist model of man; this rationalist anthropological project being what Nietzsche termed Apollian in the XIX century.; Educación
