   16. <dc:description lang="en-US">In this chapter we present the findings of our research on discursive cohesion and coherence in a narrative in sign language. The analysis and interpretation of the data shows that the discursive cohesion (based on Halliday and Hassan,1976) is performed by some of the mechanisms already described for oral languages, and by other specific to the visual-gestural mode of sign languages: repetition of lexical items (with or without discourse topic); discourse topic, deictic units towards the different loci and use of space, and role change. Some of these cohesive devices also fulfill functions of narrative coherence: the discourse topic, the emphatic and contrastive focus, and the role change, all as part of parallelistic structures.</dc:description>

   17. <dc:description lang="es-ES">En este trabajo exponemos nuestra investigación sobre la cohesión y la coherencia discursivas en una narrativa en lengua de signos. El análisis y la interpretación de los datos muestra que la cohesión discursiva (partiendo de la definición clásica de Halliday y Hassan, 1976) se realiza por medio de algunos de los mecanismos ya descritos para las lenguas orales, a los que se suman otros específicos de la modalidad viso-gestual de las lenguas de signos: repetición de elementos léxicos (con o sin tópico discursivo); tópico discursivo, uso deíctico de la mirada y el espacio, y cambio de rol. Algunos de estos recursos cumplen también funciones de coherencia narrativa: el tópico discursivo, el foco enfático y el foco contrastivo, y el cambio de rol, formando parte de patrones de estructuras paralelísticas.  </dc:description>
