Description:: Esta tesis doctoral es el primer estudio integrado sobre ironía que recoge aspectos tratados anteriormente en disciplinas como la teoría literaria, la retórica, la psicolingüística, la lingüística y la filosofía del lenguaje. Basa la integración en la consideración de la ironía como el resultado de un sistema de inferencias surgido del choque entre un escenario epistémico y un escenario observable. Este sistema de análisis da cuenta tanto de la ironía verbal como de la ironía situacional. Sobre la base del análisis meticuloso de un centenar de ejemplos extraídos de fuentes literarias y no literarias, la tesis ofrece un estudio desgranado de modos de articulación de ambos tipos de escenario, así como de las estrategias realizativas de uno y otro. Asimismo ofrece una clasificación novedosa de tipos de ironista y de intérprete para la ironía verbal, así como de tipos de situación irónica y modos de percepción de la misma en el caso de la ironía situacional. Correlaciona los distintos tipos de ironista y de intérprete con el fin de determinar los grados de felicidad (condiciones de adecuación de los enunciados irónicos). Finalmente, realiza un recorrido por los muy diversos usos irónicos que se registran tanto en la retórica, como en la historia de la literatura, y se ofrece una explicación de los mismos desde el punto de vista de la teoría del choque de los escenarios. Se distingue entre usos básicos y usos re-adaptados de la ironía, y se hace hincapié en la necesidad de controlar de manera sistemática los factores socio-culturales e históricos a la hora de determinar la naturaleza de los usos y su casuística. Como líneas de investigación futura, se propone una expansión del corpus inicial de trabajo siguiendo criterios de homogeneidad interna a las fuentes y también externa a las mismas. A esto se añade la posibilidad de controlar experimentalmente algunos de los descubrimientos realizados sobre la base del análisis lingüístico, en especial en fenómeno de los ecos complejos, que contribuyen a distintos impactos comunicativos de los enunciados irónicos. Un estudio que también se hace necesario es el de la fundamentación construccional de algunos usos irónicos, que se debe relacionar con el estudio de los indicadores lingüísticos de ironía, algunos de los cuales se han tratado en el presente estudio como factores realizadores de elementos centrales del escenario epistémico. Además de esto, se destaca la necesidad de ahondar en los factores de maximización del impacto irónico y ponerlos en relación con la determinación de las condiciones de felicidad para los distintos usos irónicos; This doctoral thesis is the first integrated study on irony that includes aspects of this phenomenon previously discussed in disciplines such as literary theory, rhetoric, psycholinguistics, linguistics, and the philosophy of language. The integration is based on the consideration of irony as the result of a system of inferences arising from the clash between an epistemic scenario and an observable scenario. This system of analysis accounts for both verbal irony and situational irony. Based on the meticulous analysis of a hundred examples drawn from literary and non-literary sources, the thesis offers a detailed study of ways of articulation of both types of scenarios, as well as the realization strategies of both. It also offers a novel classification of types of ironist and interpreter for verbal irony, as well as types of ironic situation and ways of perceiving it in the case of situational irony. It correlates the different types of ironist and interpreter in order to determine the degrees of felicity (conditions of adequacy of the ironic statements). Finally, the dissertation gives an overview of the diverse ironic uses that are recorded both in rhetoric and in the history of literature, and accounts for them from the point of view of the theory of cross-scenario clashes. A distinction is made between basic uses and re-adapted uses of irony, and emphasis is made on the need to systematically control socio-cultural and historical factors in determining the nature of the uses and their idiosyncrasy. As lines of future research, an expansion of the initial research corpus is proposed following criteria of internal and external homogeneity of the sources. Another proposal is the possibility of experimentally controlling some of the discoveries made on the basis of linguistic analysis, especially as pertains to the phenomenon of complex echoes, which contribute to different communicative impacts of ironic statements. A study that is also necessary is that of the constructional foundation of some ironic uses, which must be related to the study of linguistic indicators of irony, some of which have been treated in the present study as factors that realize central elements of the epistemic scenario. In addition to this, the thesis highlights the need to delve into the question of the maximization of ironic impact, which is to be put in relation to the determination of felicity conditions for the different ironic uses.
