- Problem-based learning is a teaching technique that seeks to promote critical thinking. The current study consisted of comparing the levels of critical thinking obtained on Facione's (2000) California Critical Thinking Skills Test (CCTST-2000) by students in the health sector, who had been taught through problem-based learning, versus students in the same school who had not been exposed to this teaching technique. The results of newly enrolled and graduating students were compared. Although the literature review showed little evidence of a relation between problem-based learning and critical thinking, the results of this study show higher levels of critical thinking among students who were taught in educational settings that consider problem-based learning. An additional finding was greater balance in the development of inductive and deductive thinking among students taught with the teaching technique of problem-based learning.
- El Aprendizaje Basado en Problemas (ABP) es una técnica didáctica que busca promover el pensamiento crítico. El presente estudio consistió en comparar los niveles de pensamiento crítico obtenidos con el Test California de Destrezas de Pensamiento Crítico (CCTST-2000) de Facione (2000) por estudiantes de salud formados con ABP con alumnos de la misma escuela que no fueron expuestos a esta técnica didáctica. Se compararon los resultados entre estudiantes de primer ingreso y candidatos a graduación. Aunque la revisión bibliográfica mostró poca evidencia de la relación del ABP con el pensamiento crítico, los resultados de este estudio muestran mayores niveles del mismo en los estudiantes que se formaron en ambientes educativos que consideran el ABP. Adicionalmente se encontró un mayor balance en desarrollo de un pensamiento inductivo y deductivo en los estudiantes formados con la técnica didáctica de ABP.
