<dc:description>In Phelps' terms, the world is faced with two different visions that affect both economic and societal Ordering. The changes that have taken place from the 1990s onwards have decisively transformed both a business' integration and its economic functioning. These are the results of a profound economic crisis in the theoretical evolution of the economy and its consequences - the great financial and economic crisis that began in 2007. The impact of both theoretical development, particularly within the context of a business, and the incidence of neoclassical thinking upon the economic configuration have disarticulated and exposed the serious problems that hinder economic knowledge and its dominant position in economic processes. A summary examination of the consequences leads us to conclude that the economy has a societal dimension- that the economy is an economy with man at its centre; that this is a reality and that it embodies how the economy should be conceived as well as how it should be practised within a business. This article presents the current trends within the Capitalist Economic-societal Ordering and then it discusses how to conceive and solve matters within a Social Market Economy. On the one hand the economy's ends within a Society are key to the above difference, observing that, at the present time, there is a process of change in the orientation of the Economy's ends. The differences between the American business-economic system and that of a Social Market Economy; between the Shareholder value and Stakeholder orientations; between the economy's individual dimension and its societal dimension are the basis of current debate and at the very heart of the need to recover the economy's ethical dimension. This contribution concludes with both an interpretation of this societal dimension of the economy from the standpoint of the Roman Catholic Church's Social Doctrine and with an interpretation of the impact of the urge to globalise upon the Economic Societal Ordering, as well as the measures that must be put into place.</dc:description>
