Notas: It has been done a detailed analysis about the variations on the quantitative composition
of the carotenoids in fresh lúceme (cv. Aragón) and the relationship with the growing
cycle and development of the plant.
The analytical determinations have been studied on the leaves, stems and whole plant.
Analysis were done when development of the plant was 25, 40, 50, 60 cm. height (early
flowering) and whole flowering as well as the four cycles of the plant during the period
between April and November 1972.
The obtained results indícate that the difference in carotenoids are only significative for
leaves of the first cycle (P < 0,01) and for the whole plant of first and second cycle (P < 0,01 and P < 0,05 respeaively). Differences on xanthopylls contents show statistic signification only for whole plant in its fourth cycle (P < 0,05).
For carotenoids, the differences are significative for whole plant on the third and fourth
cycle (P < 0,01 and P < 0,05 respectively).
We can not state any relationship among the differences observed on carotenoil contents
and development of the plant.
But it has been observed a decrease in the carotene in the plant as the development
stage of the plant goes up. This is more significative in the case of xanthophiils.
There can be observed that there is a relationship, not always constant, between light-hours number and carotenoids content in lúceme, so, there can not be stated any definitive conclusions in this way.
